First and foremost, I am a wife and mom to three kids, ranging in age from 14 to 2. My strong desire to be able to lead a life that balanced both a professional career and a physical and emotional presence at home led me to leave a great full-time job as communications director for a prominent Indianapolis church and start my own, part-time role as a freelance communicator in January 2007.

Of course, I had no way of knowing where this small business would lead me.

In 2015, it was becoming clear that, not only was I no longer able to maintain part-time hours, I was unable to keep up with a high-demand workload that kept me working until the wee hours of the morning on too many occasions. It was time to hire my first employee.

I knew Melissa Brown from our days at that prominent church I mentioned, Christ Church Cathedral. I had hired her back then and knew her work ethic, writing style and attention to every little detail. I knew she would be a perfect fit for my small team — and thankfully, she had recently added to her family; she had a desire to maintain a professional career that didn't require her to be glued to her desk five days a week.

It was perfect.

Melissa joined me in September 2015. We moved into our new office space in May 2016. Kirsten Simon came aboard as our office manager exactly one year (to the day!) after Melissa began, in September 2016.

Suddenly, it seems, this freelancing gig I started in 2007 has become a business that makes me happy in ways I never imagined.

Not only am I able to combine three creative loves of my life (writing, graphic design and photography) into my daily work, I am also able to engage four human loves of my life (my husband and three kiddos) by working close to home and being flexible with my work schedule.

Add the opportunity to work for clients and with staff I admire, respect and love, and I am a happy gal.

A little on the light-hearted side

Random facts about Corie


I have dedicated addictions to Dr Pepper and chocolate milk.


My family has a dog named Mavis and a cat named Jack. Mavis is the sweetest Labrador retriever/shepherd mix we know, and Jack is a snuggle bug.


I live in Danville (the town where I was raised) with my husband, Chad, and our three kiddos (ages 14, 11 and 2).


I will have kids in the Danville Community School Corporation for 25 years. (I try not to think about that too often.)


I worked by myself in two of my family's houses (in the dining room of the first and the basement of the second), over a span of nine years. Moving into an official office space in May 2016 (with a staff member, to boot) made me feel like a bona fide business professional again!


I take somewhere in the neighborhood of 13,000 photos a year, on average — most of them of my children.


I knew I wanted to be a journalist when I was young — before high school, I'm sure. My aunt and uncle, Colette and John, were both in the industry, and I dreamed of writing for a newspaper. That is, until I was in college and discovered my loves of graphic design and photojournalism. Thankfully, I also then discovered the world of business communications and public relations. And then it was settled: This is what I wanted to do.
